MS4 Permit
Virginia Stormwater Management Program (VSMP)
The Virginia Stormwater Management Program (VSMP), which replaced its predecessor VPDES, includes both erosion and sediment control as well as stormwater management. It was developed to protect citizens, property and natural resources from unmanaged stormwater runoff. The Virginia Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) provides localities and citizens technical assistance related to stormwater management.
MS4 Permit
The MS4 permit must be renewed every five years and requires the town to take steps to improve stormwater quality. Steps in this permit include:
- Continuing to sweep town streets
- Educating the public about stormwater runoff
- Increasing erosion and sediment controls that contractors must adhere to during construction
- Sponsoring events such as Clean Valley Day and Fall Waterways Day.
