Rate & Payment of Real Estate Taxes
The real estate tax rate for the Town of Vinton is $0.07 per $100 dollars of assessed value. Fees are payable during the year in two almost-equal installments. Per Vinton Town Code, the first half is due on or before June 5, and the second half is due on or before December 5. If those dates fall on a weekend or holiday, the due date will be the next business day.
All real estate tax tickets are mailed to the mortgage company of record at the date of bill processing, unless otherwise indicated. The property owner is responsible for the bill. Bills are not mailed to third-party tax collectors.
To pay real estate taxes with cash please come into our office at 311 S Pollard street. To pay with a check or money order you may either bring or mail payment to the above address. Pay a Real Estate Tax bill using a credit or debit card.
Failure to Pay
Any person who fails to pay the tax or misses an installment will be assessed a penalty of 10% of the past due tax on the real estate or the sum of $10, whichever is greater, in addition to the tax to be paid. However, the penalty will never exceed the amount of tax due.
Delinquent tax bills are mailed in January and July of each year to the property owner, regardless of whether or not a mortgage company is responsible for the taxes. These bills are mailed to inform the taxpayer that taxes are past due.
If you have any questions about payment of real estate taxes, please contact the Finance/Treasurer Department at 540-983-0608.
