In Vinton, the Town Clerk serves as Clerk of Council and is a part of the Administrative Team in the role of the Executive Assistant to the Town Manager, as well as serving as the professional link between the citizens of the Town of Vinton and the Town Council.
The Town Clerk provides a historical record of the governing body; prepares and distributes the Town Council Agenda and minutes of all meetings. The Town Clerk also prepares Council ordinances and resolutions approved by Town Council and is responsible for the codification of the Town Code.
The Town Clerk represents the affairs of the community by keeping records and maintaining archives for posterity and ensuring that decisions of the legislative body are properly recorded and stands at the center of a communication network to relay information about Town government and its operations.
The Town Clerk also serves as the conduit of information by handling inquiries from citizens and other municipal departments, assisting the Town Council with correspondence, managing the appointments to the Council-appointed bodies, and handling research and FOIA requests.
