2016 Fire Prevention Week and Smoke Detectors
October 9th through the 14th 2016 is Fire Prevention Week. This year's theme is "Don't Wait, Check the Date". This is to encourage everyone to check the date on their smoke detectors and replace them if they are 10 years of age or older.  Most smoke detectors have the date of manufacture stamped on the back for easy reference.

The Vinton Fire Department has smoke detectors and fire extinguishers available, free of charge, to any Town citizen that is in need of one. For more information, please contact the Vinton Fire Department at (540) 983-0629 or visit the Vinton Fire Department, 120 W. Jackson Avenue.

Also, for a very interesting article from the NFPA Journal on the importance of smoke detectors, please view: NFPA continues to push the home smoke alarm theme for Fire Prevention Week.
