The Town of Vinton was awarded two VDOT grants through their Pedestrian Safety Action Plan (PSAP) program in 2018 for full-scale pedestrian safety improvements at two (2) intersections: Hardy and Vinyard Roads and Washington Avenue and S. Pollard Street.
These funds will go towards implementing measures such as pedestrian push buttons and signal heads, high-visibility crosswalk markings, improved signage, conduit reconfiguration, and improvements to existing curb ramps and sidewalks to meet ADA compliance.
The project is being administered by the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) Salem District Office with the work being performed by the Elite Contracting Group. In order to minimize disruptions to daily traffic patterns and keep our residents and local businesses informed, we have developed an approximate schedule and intend to post updates throughout the duration of these projects.
Due to the way these projects were scheduled, the intersection improvements will not be completed simultaneously with the exception of certain tasks that can be combined by the contractor throughout the year. Both intersection projects are scheduled to be completed by December 2020.
