It is the policy of the Town of Vinton that personal information about web site visitors will be collected only to the extent necessary to provide the service or benefit desired; that only appropriate information will be collected; that the web site visitor shall understand the reason the information is collected and be able to examine their personal record which is maintained by the Town of Vinton. Further, the Town of Vinton will not disclose this information to any private or public entity outside of the Town of Vinton unless authorized by the visitor or as required by law.

The Town of Vinton has adopted the above Internet Privacy Policy for its web site http://www.vintonva.gov. The following information explains our current Internet privacy practices, but should not be construed as a contractual promise. We reserve the right to amend our Internet Privacy Policy and Internet Privacy Policy Statement at any time without notice.

VIRGINIA LAW:
We maintain our records in accordance with our obligations as defined by applicable Commonwealth of Virginia statutes. These statues include, but are not limited to, the Government Data Collection and Dissemination Practices Act, the Virginia Freedom of Information Act, and by any applicable U.S. federal laws and regulations.

Under the Virginia Freedom of Information Act (F.O.I.A.), any records in our possession at the time of a Freedom of Information Request might by subject to inspection by or disclosure to members of the public for any purpose they may desire. However, under the F.O.I.A., you have the right to request that Town of Vinton not disclose any personal information which you have provided to our web site.

CHOICE TO PROVIDE INFORMATION:
There is no legal requirement for you to provide any information at our web site. However, our web site will not work without routing or client information and the essential technical information. Failure on the part of your browser to provide nonessential technical information will not prevent your use of our web site.
