Permits & Inspections
Applying for a Permit
All permits for work within the Town of Vinton limits must be applied for at the Planning and Zoning Department and then paid for at the Finance/Treasurer Department
if paying by cash or check (credit cards for building and trade permits now accepted by Planning and Zoning), both of which are located in the Vinton Municipal Building at 311 South Pollard Street.
Once a building permit application has been made, it is sent with plans for the work to Roanoke County's building commissioner for issuance. Once the permit is approved by the building commissioner, it is faxed to the Vinton Planning and Zoning Department and prepared for the customer to pick up. A call is placed to the customer to notify him/her that the permit is ready to be picked up and paid for.
Trade permits and over-the-counter (OTC) permits are now processed in-house by Planning and Zoning. They are usually processed within 30 minutes from the time of application.
