CITIZEN TESTIMONIALS: "I LOVE VINTON BECAUSE..."

Testimonial from Ms. Ally Henderson of Vinton:

I love Vinton because of the history behind it and the community/people. I have lived in Vinton over 22 years, and I love to see it continue to grow and branch out!

Testimonial from Ms. Madelaine Argenio of Vinton:

I love Vinton because it's pretty and safe. Because it has its own 4th of July party.

Testimonial from Ms. Barbara P. Dillon of Vinton:

I like Vinton because it’s home.

My father, Tom Pedigo, was born here 111 years ago. I was born here 86 years ago.

Those days had cows, horses, chickens, hogs, and lots of dogs and cats.

Washington Avenue had ruts. Dirt streets with ashes to fill mud holes from the Viscose plant.

Wonderful people, schools and churches.

I am proud I could raise my 4 children in such a nice town and through such great schools, and even a grandson graduated from the same school I did.

Who could help but love such a nice town…

Testimonial from Ms. Doris Maxey of Vinton:

I Love Vinton Because...

Vinton has always been the wonderful place I call home. There are many wonderful memories I can recall. My grandfather, Hubert H. Dowdy, was mayor of Vinton from 1930-1934. On August 18, 1934 he used the first dial telephone between Vinton and Roanoke. My father, W. Norman Dowdy, served on the Town Council for several terms. I myself ran for Town Council and was defeated by a small margin of votes.

I love Vinton, for there are so many things which make our town great. There are the majestic mountains, the churches, parades, ball games, fire trucks and, at one time, a lot of nice stores. Most of all, I love the people in our town who care about one another, and who take pride in their homes. The people who share a sweet spirit about our town of Vinton are what make our town special.

May blessings continue for our town, the place I love and truly call home.

A Little Town
I like to live in a little town
where the trees meet across the street,
where you wave your hand and say "Hello"
to everyone you meet.
I like to stand for a moment
outside the grocery store
and listen to the friendly gossip of
the folks that live next door.
For life is interwoven
with the friends we learn to know
and we hear their joys and sorrows
as we daily come and go.
So I like to live in a little town;
I care no more to roam.
for every house in a little town
is more than a house - it's a home.
